Classes

Berserker

The rage-driven 2-hand melee class. Out-of-era canonically but enabled on Crushbone as a server-canon sixteenth class.

Berserker is the rage-driven 2-hand melee class. Canonical EverQuest introduced Berserker in Gates of Discord — past Crushbone's Classic-through-PoP era lock — but Crushbone chooses to keep the class accessible as a sixteenth playable class for players who want a pure-rage damage-dealer identity.

If you want a Berserker character, you can roll one. Know that the wiki's other Classic-through-PoP references occasionally describe "the fifteen classes" (referring to the canonical Classic 14 + Beastlord); Berserker is the sixteenth.

Role

The Berserker is pure 2-hand melee DPS. No casting, no healing, no crowd control. Rage mechanics let the Berserker blur the distinction between tank and DPS during controlled raid pulls.

Races

On Crushbone's custom rules, any race can roll Berserker. Canonical EQ Berserker races were Barbarian, Dwarf, Ogre, Troll, and Vah Shir — all large-to-medium melee races. Crushbone doesn't enforce that. A Gnome Berserker is mechanically playable.

Key abilities

  • Rage abilities — burst DPS cooldowns fueled by taking damage.
  • Frenzy — AE damage in melee range.
  • Axe Throw — ranged damage tool, keeps mob at distance during pull.
  • Berserker-specific Discipline lines — damage burst at cost of mitigation.
  • Melee / 2H weapon skill caps.

Primary weapon paths

Berserkers dual-wield axes (2 one-hand axes) or swing a 2-hand axe. Throwing axes for ranged. Berserker has no canonical Epic 1.0 on Crushbone's era lock — the Berserker Epic was introduced post-PoP.

Group fit

Melee DPS seat. Berserkers parse in the middle of the melee DPS tier — below Rogue single-target, above Monk on multi-target (thanks to AE frenzy). Works well in raid-MT groups where the Warrior holds aggro and the Berserker cuts through.

Solo

Moderate. Berserker rage mechanics require taking damage to fuel DPS, which means solo play is attrition-heavy. Works fine in outdoor zones where you can pull-and-rage but not sustainable indoor dungeons.

Leveling path

Priority AA (framework)

  • Combat Fury — crit chance on melee.
  • Weapon Affinity — proc chance.
  • Combat Agility / Combat Stability — survive rage-related damage intake.
  • Axe Mastery (Berserker-specific tree if present) — damage bonus.

Why Berserker on Crushbone

Canonical EQ locked Berserker to GoD era. Crushbone chose to keep it accessible because:

  • The class's rage identity is mechanically fun and doesn't break era balance.
  • Ogres / Barbarians / Trolls / Dwarves who want a non-healer non-tank melee identity have a specialist option beyond Warrior.
  • The 2-hand axe aesthetic is distinctive.

It's not mandatory to play Berserker — canonical 15-class players will never encounter Berserker-specific mechanics. But if you want it, it's there.

Custom race-class note

Because Crushbone enables any-race × any-class, a Dark Elf Berserker is mechanically valid but has no canonical starting faction in any Berserker-welcoming city. Plan your faction grind for training access.
