Grouping Etiquette
The unwritten rules of EverQuest group play. Invite, camp, loot, and leave with grace.
EverQuest is a group-first MMO. Most of your playtime past level 10 will happen in a 3-6 person group at a dungeon camp. The game's etiquette is old and strict; violating it will get you quietly excluded from the next three groups you ask about.
Before the group
- LFG in
/oocwith your level and class. "51 wizard lfg" is enough. - Be patient. Tank groups form fast. Cleric groups form instantly. Bards and Druids sometimes wait longer.
- Check faction. If you're rolling a new race-class and the group is in a zone your race can't reach, you'll hold everyone up.
Joining a group
- Say hello. "Hey, thanks for the invite."
- Follow the leader. If the group has a puller, let the puller pull. If they say "hold," hold.
- Don't assist uninvited. On some camps, the puller wants a specific mob camped; don't off-pull.
During the camp
- Buff everyone who needs it. If you're the Shaman, buff the group. If you're the Enchanter, haste the melee.
- Stay at the camp. Don't wander off to explore during a pull — the group's XP pace depends on you being in range.
- Communicate. If you need a break, say so. If you're low mana, say so. If you need to go AFK, say so.
Loot rules
- Dropped gear goes to someone who can use it. Usually the puller and the tank get first refusal on their class's drops.
- Rare drops for a class not in the group: ask. Most groups will let you roll if no one in group can use it.
- Coins usually split. Evenly, or as the group leader declared at the start.
Before leaving
- Say when you're leaving. Give 10-15 minutes notice if you can. "Cleric is leaving in 15."
- Thank the group. "Thanks for the group, good fights."
What breaks etiquette
- Pulling without being the puller.
- Looting a corpse that isn't yours (always FFA → ask first).
- Ninja-looting a rare and immediately quitting the group.
- Training mobs to the camp and then silently leaving.
- Insulting other players in
/groupor/ooc.
On Crushbone
The server is small. Reputation compounds. Groups form and break over time but the same 200-300 names keep appearing. Be the person others want to invite back.
