Ring War
The Velious Coldain-vs-Giants siege event. Nine rings of escalating combat, server-scale raid, the climactic Velious event.
Ring War is the Velious-era server-scale raid event where players help the Coldain Dwarves defend their homeland against the frost giants (Kromrif) of Kael Drakkel. Executed in nine rings (waves) of escalating combat, each with its own named giant champions, culminating in a final raid-scale encounter.
Ring War is the climactic Velious event — both a content raid and a piece of server lore.
Participation requirements
- Coldain faction: Warmly or above. The full chain assumes you're fighting alongside the Coldain, not against them.
- Level: 55+ (lower rings are more forgiving; later rings require 60+).
- Raid-scale force: Canonical Ring War requires 54+ players. Crushbone's smaller population means GMs scale the event down for live runs.
- Coldain Shawl Quest progression: Ring War is a step in the Shawl chain (see Coldain Shawl Quest) — many participants are working both the Shawl and the general Ring War event.
The nine rings (overview)
Each ring is a wave of giant champions:
Ring 1 — Lesser giants
Basic giant warriors. Warm-up combat; gear check.
Ring 2 — Lieutenants
Named giant lieutenants. Small group encounters.
Ring 3 — Scouts
Fast-moving giant scouts. Coordination check.
Ring 4 — Warriors
Full giant warriors. Heavier damage.
Ring 5 — Priests
Caster giants. Magic resist gear-check.
Ring 6 — Shamans
Slow-casting giant shamans. DPS race to interrupt.
Ring 7 — Elite vanguard
Named elite giant vanguard. Raid-scale encounter.
Ring 8 — Champion
A giant champion with significant HP pool and mechanics.
Ring 9 — Final champion (the Ultimate)
The culminating raid encounter. King Tormax or his second-in-command, depending on canonical variant.
Reward progression
Successful participation grants:
- Coldain faction — significant boost (helps Shawl chain and Thurgadin access).
- Legendary named drops — class-specific items from each ring's named.
- Coldain Hero status — lore-recognition for participants.
- Ring War kill credit — required for Coldain Shawl Step 10.
How it runs on Crushbone
Triggered events
Ring War is a server-scale event requiring GM activation. GMs announce in Discord 24-48 hours in advance.
Participation
- Join via
/oocor the announced raid channel. - Raid force organizes in Great Divide near the Kael zone line.
- GM starts the ring progression.
Smaller-force scaling
Crushbone's smaller population means GMs may scale difficulty per ring for the participating raid force. Don't assume canonical numbers — attend scheduled events and adapt.
Mechanics across rings
- Tank rotation — main tanks get debuffed by high-ring giants; swap as needed.
- Mez control — Enchanters lock add spawns during named fights.
- Cleric chains — Complete Heal rotations required at high rings.
- DPS focus — bring high DPS per class; DPS races matter at rings 7-9.
Faction side path
Players who want to side with the Kromrif (giants) instead of Coldain can pursue that path. It's significantly harder (fewer participants), but it gives access to Kael Drakkel without hostility and a different lore track.
On Crushbone
Ring War is active and GM-run. Watch #events in Discord for scheduled runs. The server's lore community values Ring War as a defining participation event.
