Blackburrow
The classic first dungeon. Gnoll-infested pit between Qeynos Hills and Everfrost Peaks.
Blackburrow is the canonical first dungeon of EverQuest. A cave-and-tunnel complex beneath a gnoll encampment, connecting Qeynos Hills (south) to Everfrost Peaks (north). Every generation of EverQuest player has a Blackburrow story.

Geography
Blackburrow descends from the Qeynos Hills pit into a series of tight tunnels, past a bar (yes, the gnolls have a bar), around a central pool, and out to the Everfrost side. Gnoll patrols keep the tunnels contested.
Notable NPCs
- Splitpaw gnolls — the primary inhabitants. Level 10-16 patrols in small groups.
- Lord Feshlak — named gnoll near the bar. Drops the Rabid Wolf Tooth quest turn-in.
- Blackburrow Priest — named priestess, back of the zone.
ZEM
Blackburrow is a traditional high-ZEM zone — the intent is to give new characters a strong leveling dungeon and a reason to learn dungeon etiquette (pull control, train-avoidance, camp-holding). See ZEM Table for the live value.
Why it matters
Blackburrow teaches three lessons every new EverQuest player must learn:
- Don't pull the whole room. Train mechanics are merciless in a gnoll cave.
- Camp the puller's safe spot. Blackburrow has a handful of natural chokepoints; find one.
- Bind outside. Dying in Blackburrow without a safe bind means the corpse run is through more gnolls.
