Magician
Pet caster — summons elementals, rods, reagents.
Magicians specialize in elemental summoning. Their pets scale harder than any other class's pets; their reagent-free pet-nuke combo is sustained DPS across the full class lifespan. The Magician's secret identity is as the server's Rod of Iron quartermaster — Magicians summon weapons and carriables for other players for free.
Role
The Magician is a pet-DPS + item-summon utility. The pet tanks, the Mage nukes, and the group benefits from summoned stat-food, elemental familiars, and carriables.
Key abilities
- Elemental pets — four flavors (Fire, Earth, Water, Air) with different tradeoffs.
- Modulation lines — Call of the Hero summons a group member to the Mage. Situational, huge.
- Reclaim Energy — dismiss pet for mana return.
- Summoned items — Rod of Iron (food), Summoned Torches, Bag of Sewn Evil-Eye (containers), Summoned Stones (tradeskill).
- Burnout line — haste + DPS buff for pet and self.
- Elemental Form (AA) — temporary pet replacement with unique procs.
Primary weapon paths
Magicians use 1h magic staves and robes. Mage epic 1.0 is Staff of Elemental Mastery.
Group fit
Any group. The pet reduces the tank's workload; the nukes contribute DPS; and the Magician's summons reduce food/drink costs for everyone in the party. Magicians are less "required" than Clerics but universally welcomed.
Solo
Excellent. Pet-tank, Mage-nuke. The Magician is one of the top three solo classes in EverQuest. A 60+ Magician with a fire pet can solo most outdoor named encounters that Wizards cannot.
Leveling path summary
- 1–15: Newbie yard, pet learns to hold aggro.
- 15–30: Blackburrow, Sol A, Najena. Upgrade pet every 4 levels.
- 30–45: Sol B, Lower Guk, Mistmoore.
- 45–60: Karnor's, Chardok, Seb. Pet handles what mobs nukers can't.
- 60–65: PoP pet-DPS seat. Plane of Fire is Magician territory.
Play note
Gnome Magician is the common build (starting city + racial int). Dark Elf and Human Magician exist. Erudite Magician has the highest int ceiling but suffers the starting-strength problem. Pick a race with better stamina if possible — carrying reagents is part of the job.
